Calado, Dasma close in on PNVFCL playoffs at MRT-Negros’ expense


LIPA CITY, BATANGAS—Dasma nabbed its second win after a 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 win over MRT Negros in the PNVF Champions League, Tuesday at the Aquamarine Recreational Center here.

With the victory, the Monarchs became the first team to advance to the semifinals with a 2-0 standing in Pool B.

“Thankful na naka 2-0 pero it was not so pleasant na game,” said Team Dasma head coach Norman Miguel.

Ronniel Rosales tied the game at 23-all in the fourth set with a drop. He then secured a block on Christian Marcelino to put the Monarchs at match-point.

Louie Pudadera then tried to drop the ball on the other side but failed, giving Team Dasma the win.

“Obviously nag relax kami. That’s not good going to the third game, ‘di ba? Later may practice kami so we have to recover all those mga mistake na nangyari dito,” said Miguel.

Mark Calado and Madz Gampong once again led the Monarchs with 13 points each.

Rosales, who hit the timely attacks for Team Dasma, ended up with 10 points while Jayvee Sumagaysay and Wewe Medina chipped in nine and eight, respectively.

MRT Negros, who was coming off a five-set win against Sabong International, slipped to 1-1 in Pool B.

On the other hand, Jet Nonoy led MRT Negros with 15 points, 17 excellent receptions, and eight digs.

Marcelino and Matthew Salarzon added 14 points each in the loss.

Team Dasma looks to sweep the group stage tomorrow against Sabong International at 10:00 AM while MRT Negros looks to improve its slate versus Global Remit later in the day at 4:00 PM.
