AICHI, Japan — Alas Pilipinas will have two pairs in the quarterfinals of the women’s beach volleyball competition at the 20th Asian Games.
Sofiah Pagara and Khy Progella were the first to book their spot in the last eight after sweeping Hong Kong’s Ngok Ling Tsang and Wong Man Ching, 26-14, 21-18, at the Hekinan Ryokuchi Beach Court here on Monday.
Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons then followed suit with a 25-17, 25-15 victory over Japan’s Sakura Ito and Mayu Sawame.

The quarterfinals will begin on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, James Buytrago and Ronniel Rosales bowed out of the men’s tournament after absorbing a lopsided 21-11, 21-13 loss to Indonesia’s Sofyan Rachman Efendi and Bintang Akbar on Sunday.
The Filipino pair finished with a 1-2 record in Pool C.
