Bryan Bagunas, Oita suffer sweep at hands of Tokyo in V.League

The frustrations continued for Oita Miyoshi despite the constant impressive performances by Filipino import Bryan Bagunas.

Weisse Adler suffered a 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 18-25 defeat by FC Tokyo in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 Men’s Tournament, Sunday at the Beppu City General Gymnasium.

The 6-foot-5 open spiker was once again at the forefront of Oita’s attack, registering 22 points on 18 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace.

Another consistent twin-digit scorer in Curtis Stockton also contributed 22 for Weisse Adler as the two imports continue to lack local support.

Out of the nine other players fielded by Oita Miyoshi excluding libero Masato Kubota, only three players scored in the contest led by Masaya Katsu’s nine markers.

Weisse Adler slid to a league-worst 0-16 win-loss record.

Yuma Nagatomo powered FC Tokyo anew with 24 points including two block kills and service aces.

Adding 17 of his own was Hideyuki Kuriyama in the one-hour 50-minute affair.

Nozomi Sato also added 15 markers built on 10 spikes, three blocks, and two aces. Guoshi Sakoda reached double digits too with 10.

FC Tokyo cruised to their fourth-straight victory as they improve to 6-10 for eighth place.

Up next for Oita Miyoshi are the Sakai Blazers on Saturday, Jan. 23, 3 pm, at the Konohana Arena in Shizuoka.
