Amihan Esports and Team Secret bowed out of the League of Legends: Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon Series Summer Super Cup after suffering heartbreaking losses against their Vietnamese foes in the quarterfinals, Saturday.
Amihan Esports, who was coming off a five-day break heading to their quarterfinal bout against SBTC Esports, dropped two consecutive games to open the series which they lost in five games.
The Filipino kings shrugged off the rust come Game Three, leaning on Beaver-Ed “Orthros” Villanueva’s Braum to score a dominant win over the Vietnamese. The troika of Miguel “Mitsura” Gavin (Renekton), Jelson “Jelson” Ayon (Jarvan IV), and Karl “KARLLL” Bautista (Akali) then took over in Game Four to send the series to a deciding Game Five.
Amihan played from behind for the majority of Game Five, but tried to mount a comeback late after securing three crucial kills which paved the way for a Baron take.
However, Nguyễn “TF” Hữu Thuần’s Gragas and Phạm “Minas” Minh Phước’s Fiora were there to turn things around for SBTC – taking down four of Amihan’s five champions and then went on to finish the series.
Meanwhile, Team Secret’s come-from-behind victory in Game Four was not enough as they dropped a lopsided Game Five which led to a 2-3 lost against CERBERUS Esports.
Team Secret averted a late collapse in Game Four after successfully defending their Nexus from a backdoor attempt by the Vietnamese as they went on to tie the series at 2-all. However, CERBERUS Esports dominated all throughout Game Five to advance to the semifinals.
Amihan Esports and Team Secret both settled for a 5th-8th place finish, taking home $8,500 each.
