Alex Eala to enter French Open as second seed

After a breakthrough semifinal finish last year, Alex Eala feels motivated to aim for more.

The Filipino tennis ace will go into Paris armed with the No. 2 seed in the girls’ singles events, as the 2021 French Open is expected to get underway on June 6.

Eala made headlines after almost reaching her first-ever Grand Slam singles finals last year with her spectacular run in this very same tournament. She eventually bowed to France’s own and eventual champion Elsa Jacquemot.

Jacquemot will not compete in this year’s edition of the tournament.

This time, the now 16-year-old looks to repeat or even surpass that achievement this time around.

Andorra’s Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva will enter the tournament as the top seed. Two Russians in Polina Kuedemetova and Diana Shnaider follow Eala at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.

Last year, the 2019 Australian Open juniors doubles champion also carried the No. 2 seed into the tournament.
