Alab Pilipinas will finally have giants that can anchor their defense
After releasing Korean brothers Lee Seung-Jun and Lee Dong-Jun, Alab Pilipinas will beef up their frontline by signing 6-foot-8 Sampson Carter to be the team’s foreign reinforcement.
“Okay na yung isang import,” Alab head coach Mac Cuan said. “Sampson Carter from UMass [University of Massachusetts].
“He will be arriving on the third of January.”
The 26-year-old had gone undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft. He then made the rounds in Europe, playing in Slovakia and Portugal before going to the Dominican Republic to play for Virgilio Castillo.
He was signed by NBA team Memphis Grizzlies back in October of 2015 but was waived six pre-season games after. He was then immediately tapped by Mexican club team Caballeros de Culiacán.
For the other vacated slot for reinforcements, Alab tried getting the services of former Barako Bull import Liam McMorrow, who stands at 7-foot-2, but is currently committed to Taiwanese club team Fubon Braves. Instead, the Philippine-based club team is looking at 6-foot-11 James Hughes.
“We [already] sent the offer sheet and waiting na lang ng sagot,” Cuan said about Hughes. “I think time difference lang because madaling araw ngayon dun. So hopefully mamaya may sagot na if okay na siya.”
Cuan is hopeful that his team can lock up the two by January 3, as Alab Pilipinas are set to fly to Kaohsiung to face the Truth on January 7.
