One more hope for Oping
After helping the Cignal HD Hawkeyes in their golden campaign in the PBA D-League, Oping Sumalinog has been tapped by Alab Pilipinas for its campaign in the 2017-18 ABL Season.
Sumalinog, 28, averaged 9.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in Cignal’s Foundation Cup campaign. The 6-foot-2 swingman also had a stellar showing in NLEX-SCTEX’s campaign in the 2017 Merlion Cup.
But the Cebuano was stuck in free agency, as the TNT Katropa did not renew his contract.
The move will reunite him with Alab head coach Jimmy Alapag, who had been part of TNT’s coaching staff back in 2015.
Sumalinog is the fifth player unveiled by Alab as Ray Parks, Jr., Lawrence Domingo, and Robby Celiz are set to return, while Ivan Johnson has been tapped as the team’s World Import.
