AFF: Rosquillo scores but Azkals U19 fold to Myanmar, go down 0-3


The Philippine Under-19 National Men’s Football Team suffered its third defeat in the 2022 AFF U19 Championship in a 3-1 loss to Myanmar, Wednesday evening, at the Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Myanmar was able to secure an early two-goal cushion in the first half. Swan Htet and Thein Zaw Thiha scored at the 4th and 7th minutes respectively to give their side a dream start at the expense of coach Christopher Pedimonte’s boys.

Philippines skipper Jaime Rosquillo then pulled one back at the 30th minute but that was as good as it got for the Filipinos.

Myanmar then restored a two-goal separation when Zaw Win Thein scored past Jose Alfonso de Leon Gonzalez at the 42nd minute.

The win allows Myanmar to temporarily take first place in Group A with 6 points on the back of two wins and one loss. On the other hand, the Philippines are yet to tally a point after three matches played.

Both teams will be back in action on Friday. Myanmar goes up against Vietnam at 4:00 PM while the Philippines takes on Indonesia at 9:00 PM.
