The Filipinas opened their campaign in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on a disappointing note, falling 2–1 to Myanmar on Friday at the IPE Chonburi Stadium.
Mallie Ramirez scored in the 69th minute on her international debut, giving the Filipinas hope, but they were unable to capitalize on the equalizer.
Myanmar’s Win Theingi Tun had put the Chinthe Ladies ahead just five minutes into the match. With the score tied at 1–1, May Htet Lu headed home the winning goal in the 90th minute, sealing the victory for Myanmar.
The result made Myanmar the first team in Group B to secure three points, with Vietnam and Malaysia set to face off later at 7:30 PM Manila time.
Both teams will return to action on Monday at the IPE Chonburi Stadium. Malaysia takes on Myanmar at 5:00 PM, followed by the Philippines against Vietnam at 7:30 PM.
