Global-Cebu finally opened their doors on their home floor, the Cebu City Sports Complex, while Kaya FC-Makati’s Miguel Tanton celebrated his birthday in style, Wednesday.
Tanton scores brace as Kaya-Makati prolongs Stallion Laguna’s agony
Miguel Tanton had much to celebrate yesterday. The Filipino-American celebrated his 28th birthday and did so in incredible fashion as he scored two goals in a 1-3 away win against Stallion at the Binan Football Stadium in Laguna.
Kaya coach Noel Marcaida shared, “I’m happy with the win, we were able to get maximum points against Stallion. (Tanton) deserves to be Man of the Match — a gift from himself, and a gift from the team for him as well. Today is a very special day for him.”
Jordan Mintah opened the scoring for the Makati club at the 12th minute after some fine attacking play. Kaya then saw their lead doubled after Tanton converted the first of his goals via a freekick after 34 minutes of play.
The game was as good as done come the 67th minute after Tanton directed another freekick proved to into the Stallion net. Unfortunately for Kaya, no clean sheet was forthcoming, as their former forward Yannick Tuason provided the Stallion a consolation goal in stoppage time.
This was Kaya’s first victory after three games. With the win, Kaya are in 4th place with 14 points, while Stallion are stuck in 7th place with three points.
Global-Cebu blesses home soil with win over rivals Ceres-Negros
At long last, the Cebu City Sports Complex was finally baptized with a PFL game. Global Cebu held on for an important and spirited 1-0 victory against rivals Ceres Negros.
It was a heated contest all throughout the game and both teams had a player ejected early in the game. Around the 12th minute mark, Global forward Seykou Sylla and Ceres goalie Roland Muller were both sent off after a scuffle.
Down to just 10 men each, it was Global who drew first blood at the 42nd minute. A long-range strike from Matt Hartmann proved to be too strong for substitute Negros stopper Louie Casas as the Cebu side got the cushion it needed at the stroke of halftime.
Ceres tried their best to level the proceedings in the second half, but all their efforts went to naught as the Global defense spearheaded by goalkeeper Patrick Deyto held firm. Ultimately, Global held on for the three points in what was their first home game at Cebu, where they were watched by approximately 5,000 fans.
The win strengthened Global’s hold on 3rd place with 17 points, while Ceres had to make do with 5th place and 13 points.
