UST, FEU sustain unbeaten starts against determined foes

Last season’s finalists University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University needed to dig deep to come away with identical 3-0 records after Day Two of the UAAP Season 80 Beach Volleyball tournament at the Sands SM by the Bay.

Defending champions Cherry Rondina and Caitlyn Viray faced an Ateneo de Manila University side that was fresh from a fiery comeback last night. The Tigresses, however, overcame their first set errors to secure a straight-set win, 22-20, 21-15.

“May mga pagkakamali pa po kami na ginagamot pa namin,” said UST’s Rondina. “Every game po ang goal namin is to get better as a team. Marami naman po kaming natutunan kanina na madadala namin sa next games namin.”

FEU’s Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza, on the other hand, dropped the first set in disheartening fashion to De La Salle University’s Tin Tiamzon and May Luna. But, the spikers from Morayta dominated the next two sets and secured a 21-23, 21-13, 15-10 win.UAAP-80-Womens-Beach-Volleyball-FEU-def-ADMU-Atienza-Pons UST, FEU sustain unbeaten starts against determined foes ADMU AdU Beach Volleyball DLSU FEU News NU UAAP UE UP UST - philippine sports news

“Marami po kami errors talaga noong unang set. Mali ‘yung target namin, mali ‘yung galaw namin,” expressed FEU’s Pons. “Kailangan po talaga namin bawasan ‘yung mga pagkakamali namin sa mga susunod na games.”

In the latter matches, University of the Philippines’ Diana Carlos and Arielle Estrañero earned their srcond win at Adamson University’s Chrislyn Uy and Bernadette Flora’s expense 21-13, 23-21, while University of the East’s Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymay picked up their first win after surviving National U’s Roma Doromal and Jonie Chavez, 21-14, 17-21, 15-11.
