Even if Chooks-to-Go were relegated to the classification stage of the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup, it did not deter the Philippine side, as it vented all its frustration on United Arab Emirates-based club team Shabab Al Ahli-Dubai, 92-57, Friday afternoon at the Chenzhou Sports Center in China.
The win moves Chooks-to-Go to the battle for fifth game, where they will go up against Mono Vampire on Saturday at 12:15pm. The two squads met during the group stage, with Chooks-to-Go winning 115-102.
Kiefer Ravena fired 20 markers in the game to lead Chooks-to-Go, shooting an efficient 8-for-11 from the field to go along with six rebounds. Almond Vosotros and LA Revilla added 14 and 12 markers respectively, with the latter going 5-for-5 from the field.
Though Chooks-to-Go suffered an early setback — as Jeron Teng was limited to just two minutes due to an ankle sprain — Ravena rallied the troops, leading the charge by scoring 12 first half points to help give Chooks-to-Go a 42-26 lead entering the half.
It was all Chooks-to-Go from then on, as Ravena, Isaiah Austin, Revilla, and Jeric Teng all took turns extending the lead in the third frame. The lead ballooned to as high as 35 points, 82-47, after a long bomb by Alfrancis Tamsi.
Jeric Teng chipped in 11 points, while Austin finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Qais Omar Alshabebi was the sole bright spot for Shabab Al Ahli, finishing with 28 points to go along with 13 rebounds.
