On their way out, UP costs La Salle crucial match

In their final match of the Premier Volleyball League Men’s Collegiate Conference, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons dealt Final Four-aspirants De La Salle University Green Spikers a major blow with a 25-22, 22-25, 27-25, 25-23 win at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

UP fell out of the Final Four picture early, but direly wanted to end their campaign on a high note.

“Kita naman na talagang mababa nilaro namin noong mga unang laro namin. Kaya ginusto lang namin kanina maglaro ng walang pressure. Para sa pride na lang namin ‘yun as a team,” said UP head coach Rod Palmero, who steered the Fighting Maroons to a 2-5 record.

Third-year winger Mark Millete led four Maroons in double-digits with 20 points. Matthew Gohoc added 15 markers.

La Salle finished the elims at 3-4, now needing NU, UST, and San Beda to lose matches in order to qualify for the semis.

Raymark Woo led Cignal with 24 markers but had seven attack errors. His fellow open hitter Arjay Onia added 15 points.
