Frustrated Brandon Brown on Phoenix’s skid: ‘This is new to me’

For nearly a decade, Brandon Brown has been roaming the globe to play basketball, having already had stints in 10 countries. At this point in his career, the 32-year-old gas found himself playing in Southeast Asia.

The eight-year journeyman is now playing for the Phoenix Fuel Masters as a replacement import. But sadly for him, he’s playing for a team that has spent much of their time at the bottom of the 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup standings.

The Fuel Masters absorbed yet another loss Friday night — their sixth straight. And the six-foot-four forward, who has played his third game with the Fuel Masters, did not hide his frustrations, even after erupting for 49 points.

“I don’t like it. We lost. I mean, I dont care about the stats,” said Brown, after their 110-103 defeat versus TNT Katropa. “I’m just trying to do what I need to do to make us win. I can have 60 in that. But we lost. It doesn’t matter.

“I just wanna win. I’m not used to losing like this. This is new to me,” he added, sighing over their skid.

The Fuel Masters are clearly in a deep hole in the season-ending conference. But Brown still remains optimistic, saying that the only key for his side to end their franchise-worst slump is to be consistent at all times.

“We just gotta make adjustments at the end of the game. We’re not a well-respected team in this league. I mean, the referees are not gonna give us any calls down the stretch, so for us to win, we have to take it,” he said. “We can’t just hope we get calls at the line and hope we get lucky shots. We just gotta stay consistent. Consistent. Consistent.

“That’s the only way we’ll win a game.”
