Abueva chooses to stay mum after not making playoffs for the first time

For the first time in his five-year PBA career, Calvin Abueva will not be in the post-season.

Let that sink in. Ever since he was drafted as the second overall pick in the 2012 PBA Draft, the Alaska Aces have been a fixture in the PBA playoffs.

But streaks are meant to be broken.

Even with 6-foot-2 utility forward posting a career-high 31 points, it all went to naught as the Aces fell to Globalport, 107-106, sending the proud franchise to an eight-game losing streak – a losing streak that they plan to end next conference.

Frustrated, the 29-year-old chose to keep everything to himself rather than share his thoughts on the crucial no-call on his drive with 5.3 ticks remaining.

“Sarado ang bibig ko,” Abueva, who had norms of 15.33 points, 6.67 rebounds, 2.22 assists, and 1.11 steals this conference, said as he walked the corridors of the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Or maybe, Abueva did not want to suffer the same fate like he did last conference when Alaska was eliminated by Ginebra in the quarterfinals.

Safe to say, Abueva will have a lot of time to think in preparation for the Governors Cup.
