Tamaraws smash Green Spikers, spoil Pamilar’s debut

Vengeance is sweet for the determined FEU Tamaraws.

Against the team that cost them a Final Four slot last season, the Recto-based spikers showed tremendous form, sweeping the De La Salle University Green Spikers 25-16, 25-19, 26-24 to start their UAAP Season 79 campaign at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

FEU dominated all the skills as La Salle froze to first-game jitters. The Tamaraws easily picked up the first set then rallied from a late two-point deficit to secure set two.

La Salle controlled the third set thanks to reigning Best Scorer Raymark Woo’s efforts. Behind 18-20, FEU stormed back behind Greg Dolor, who powered in three straight points to carry his team to a 22-20 lead. Late FEU errors, however, sent the set to a deuce but skipper Richard Solis and Dolor put the finishing touches on the match before things got out of hand.

Spikers’ Turf MVP Greg Dolor tallied 15 points while sophomore sensation Jude Garcia added 12 markers.

“Sige gusto talagang bumawi nang mga players kasi last year ang sakit ng talo namin sa La Salle,” said FEU head coach Rey Diaz.

The Tams (1-0) try to keep their hot start going against the Adamson University Falcons (0-1) on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying B Centre.

Woo piled up 16 points while Arjay Onia added seven. La Salle faces UST (0-1) on February 11.
