Red Spikers bounce back with win over Stags

After suffering a humbling defeat against the Lyceum Pirates last Monday, the San Beda Red Spikers turned back the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags in three sets, 25-13, 25-23, 25-17, to clinch their third win of the season, Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Mark Enciso led the San Beda spikers with 11 points from nine attacks and two blocks.

However, it was a total team effort that got them the win. The Mendiola squad used the maximum allowed players of 14, getting 11 of the spikers to score.

Other than the cohesion they have shown, setter JC Desuyo also believes that they were relaxed in their play in this match. He said, “Nung natalo kami sa Lyceum di kami nageenjoy. Ginawa namin kanina, nag-enjoy lang kami.”

Gerald Zabala paced the supporting cast with nine points, seven off spikes. Reigning Best Setter Desuyo orchestrated the offense well for the Red Spikers, with 35 excellent tosses.

Desuyo shared that head coach Jose Roque had told them to learn from that loss against the Pirates.

“Sabi sa’min dagdagan lang yung sa training, yung mga ginagawa namin kailangan double-time. Yung ‘pag kulang sa training, sa game, kaya kailangang mag-double-time,” he said.

The Bedans were just too much for the opponents as they poured in 42 attacks and eight service aces. San Sebastian, however, tied them in blocks with eight apiece.

Christian Calonia led the Golden Stags with eight markers.

The Red Spikers (3-1) take on the JRU Heavy Bombers (1-3) next on Monday, December 5. The Golden Stags (1-3), on the other hand, face the winless EAC Generals (0-4) on the following day.
