Topflight rookie Ahanmisi vows: ‘We’re going to be hungrier’

With a full season under his belt, there’s no where to go but up for Jerrick Ahanmisi

No one expected Adamson University Soaring Falcons rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi to be this good, this early. His UAAP debut alone was one for the ages, scoring 28 points and knocking down six of his seven attempts from distance.

The runaway Rookie of the Year winner became the top marksman in the league, shooting 37.8 percent from downtown while being automatic from the stripe – 94.3 percent.UAAP-79-UE-vs.-AdU-Ahanmisi-0438 Topflight rookie Ahanmisi vows: 'We're going to be hungrier' AdU Basketball News UAAP - philippine sports news

After falling to the highly-favored De La Salle Green Archers Wednesday evening, there were no signs of sadness nor regret from the young Falcons. Their magical run might have ended but it was just a sign of things to come for them.

“I think it was a pretty good game for us to show that everyone in the whole tournament that we’re a different Adamson team and we can actually compete with other teams especially with the big name teams like La Salle,” said the Filipino-Nigerian after a close 63-69 loss to the Green Archers.

“Hopefully next season we’ll be able to go farther in the tournament.”

The young Falcons had multiple chances to hijack the game and extend the series but the shots they used to make failed them.

“They were wide open shots we weren’t just able to knock them down. We’re gonna come back next season work on our game hopefully we won’t miss those open shots next time,” said the 18-year-old, who scored nine points on 3-of-14 shooting in his post-season debut.

But still Ahanmisi was just happy to get his first season in the bag, sharing that it was a privilege to be a part of something special for the Adamson community. “It’s just like another blessing for us having the Adamson community behind us every single game. Hopefully, next season there will be more people supporting us,” he said.

“I hope they’re gonna be behind us every single season.”

“I think next season we’re gonna be even hungrier. Now that we know the feeling of a playoffs, knowing that we were so close to get to the Finals, we’re gonna be hungrier next season,” he stressed.
