Tamaraws, Tiger Spikers continue to dominate; Blue Eagles stumble

The Ateneode Manila University Blue Eagles fell into a deep trouble, while the Far University Tamaraws and University Santo Tomas remain on top of the UAAP Men’s Beach Volleyball Tournament totem pole after Day Two at the Sands SM by the Bay in Pasay City.

Defending champions Marck Espejo and Ish Polvorosa first dropped their morning match to the young Far Eastern University Tamaraws pair of Jude Garcia and Richard Solis, 18-21, 17-21, then their next match to Adamson University’s Rence Melgar and JP Yude 21-18, 24-26, 14-16.

As Polvorosa is new to beach volleyball, he has yet to develop chemistry with Espejo, who is half of last season’s champion pair. Ateneo will now need to win the rest of their matches to keep their Final Four bid alive.

FEU made short work of their afternoon match against the University of the East’s Jeric Ortega and Vince Abrot, 21-10, 21-14.

UST’s Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto swept their two matches, ousting De La Salle University’s Cris Dumago and Wayne Marco 21-13, 21-12 in the morning, then breezing past University of the Philippines’ Alfred Valbuena and Wendel Miguel 21-13, 21-14.

National University’s Fauzi Ismail and Madz Gampong squeezed past the Falcons, 21-19, 21-17, before throttling the Green Spikers 21-10, 21-16.

UP kept pace with the Falcons with a 21-10, 21-17 triumph over the the Red Warriors.

UP and Adamson are now tied at fourth, 2-2. National U hold third place with a 3-1 slate, while FEU and UST have identical 4-0 records.
