“We’re not here for a vacation.”
That is what KG Canaleta declared when the veteran forward talked to Tiebreaker Times while on board a connecting flight from Narita Airport to Sendai.
Canaleta along with fellow NLEX teammate Aldrech Ramos, Meralco forward Rey Guevarra and GlobalPort guard Terrence Romeo will represent the Philippine team, will carry Manila West to the FIBA World 3 x 3 tourney finals in Tokyo.
According to Canaleta, the team is determined to achieve something.
“We didn’t come here just to become tourists, we’re here trying to win something which we could bring home back to our country,” Canaleta wrote in an online interview.
A few months ago, Canaleta and the rest of the Manila West squad ruled the Manila leg of the FIBA World 3×3 tournament, dethroning erstwhile champion Qatar.
In the coming Tokyo tournament, the Philippines will face a similar situation, having to play twice a day.
Manila West opens its campaign on Saturday against Sao Paulo of Brazil at 2:10 pm and goes up against Bucharest at 3:55 pm on the same day.
