The Shakey’s V-League and Spikers’ Turf kicked off their 2016 season with a day dedicated to their fans.
Players from each squad participated in interactive games and photo sessions with fans who were able to enter the FilOil Flying V Centre for free.
Fresh from a tour in Doha, Bali Pure’s Alyssa Valdez led the players’ oath-taking together with IEM’s Jeffrey Jimenez.
“We are very thankful to everyone who supported us throughout the 13 seasons we’ve been around. Hopefully, we can put together another exciting season for the fans,” said V-League official Ricky Palou.
The Open Conference for the Shakey’s V-League will feature eight teams headlined by club teams Bali Pure and Pocari Sweat. Bali Pure will feature former Lady Eagles Alyssa Valdez, Denden Lazaro, Dzi Gervacio, and playing coach Charo Soriano together with San Sebastian standouts Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa. Pocari Sweat, on the other hand, will be bannered by Myla Pablo, Melissa Gohing, and Michele Gumabao.
KIA will also make their second appearance in the V-League with the Adamson troika of Mylene Paat, Jema Galanza, and Fen Emnas leading the charge. The Philippine Air Force are also part of the eight-team tournament.
School-based squads National University Lady Bulldogs and University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and city-based squads Baguio City and Iriga City round out the competition.
For the men’s side, six teams will slug it out for the league’s fourth crown. Reinforced conference champions Cignal look to continue their dominance while Air Force, IEM, Team Volleyball Manila, Navy, and Bounty Fresh will try to stop them.
The first matches will be on May 28 at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Stay tuned for updates regarding the schedule.
