Abueva favorite to win first BPC award

Greg Slaughter, Terrence Romeo, and Calvin Abueva are still on top of the statistical points leaderboard of the 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup after the end of the conference’s semifinals.

Slaughter still leads all locals with 34.2 average SPs, although his Barangay Ginebra San Miguel team were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Globalport Batang Pier guard Romeo is in second in the race for the Best Player of the Conference with 33 average SPs, followed by Alaska Aces forward Calvin Abueva in third spot with 32.7 average SPs.

However, Abueva is still the favorite this conference’s honor due to winning percentage. Abueva and the Aces are in the midst of the 2016 PBA Commissioners Cup Finals. Moreover, the statistical points tally is just 40% of the entire criteria for the award. 30% comes from the press and media votes, while the player votes and the Commissioner’s office are also factored in.

Reigning conference BPC Jayson Castro of Tropang TNT ranks fourth with 29.8, followed by Blackwater guard Carlo Lastimosa’s 28.6.

Completing the top 10 are San Miguel center June Mar Fajardo (28.5), NLEX forward Sean Anthony (28.2), San Miguel wing man Marcio Lassiter (26.9), San Miguel playmaker Alex Cabagnot (26.7), and Rain or Shine forward JR Quinahan (25.9).

Meanwhile, Ricardo Ratliffe of the Star Hotshots is the top-ranked import, averaging 52.6 SPs.PBA-Commissioner-Cup-2016-STAR-GP-Ricardo-Ratliffe Abueva favorite to win first BPC award Basketball News PBA - philippine sports news

Tyler Wilkerson used to own the top spot, but since the Beermen let go of the prolific-scoring import, the Best Import of the Conference plum will most likely go to another reinforcement.

Following Ratliffe in the race is NLEX’s Al Thornton (52.9), Globalport’s Shawn Taggart (49.2), TNT’s David Simon (48.1), and Barangay Ginebra’s Othyus Jeffers (46.6). Meralco center Arinze Onuaku, who reached the farthest round among the top imports, comes in at sixth with 43.9 average SPs.
