The razor-sharp De La Salle University Lady Spikers displayed all-around brilliance, thrashing the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in straight sets, 25-11, 25-13, 25-17, to avenge their first round loss in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Dominating their España counterparts in every facet of volleyball, the Lady Spikers controlled the entirety of the match. DLSU easily built insurmountable double-digit leads in every frame. La Salle’s quick win was in stark contrast to their first round meeting, in which they gave up big leads to a more determined UST side.
“Kita mo naman sa kanila na gusto talaga nilang makabawi. Sinabi lo sa kanila after matalo noong first round, crucial na manalo kami ngayon para sa mga record. Kailangan namin lahat ng panalo na makukuha namin,” said DLSU head coach Ramil De Jesus.
DLSU had a 33-16 lead in spiking, a 13-3 lead in blocking, and a 7-3 lead aces. DLSU setter Kim Fajardo tossed 27 excellent sets while UST setter Alyssa Teope had just nine.
Kim Dy led a balanced DLSU attack with 12 points while Mika Reyes and Ara Galang had 11 points each. Libero Dawn Macandili managed a staggering 29 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions.
No Tigress crossed double-digit scoring, with their top two scorers, Cherry Rondina and Ej Laure, only tallying seven and eight markers respectively.
DLSU (7-2) and UST (4-5) both have their next matches on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. La Salle face the University the Philippines Lady Maroons (6-3) on 4 p.m., while UST take on the Adamson University Lady Falcons (3-6) on 2 p.m.
