ALA Boxing Promotions is all set for tomorrow’s 35th Pinoy Pride card after the recently concluded weigh-ins held at The Atrium of Robinson’s Galleria-Cebu Friday afternoon.
All pugilists made weight with ease except for Mexico’s Tony Rodriguez, who stepped into the scales a pound over the agreed 113-pound limit. Rodriguez was able to make weight in his second attempt for his eight-round bout against former amateur boxing standout Kevin Jake “KJ” Cataraja. Cataraja is gunning for his third straight victory since turning pro.
In the WBO Youth Featherweight championship bout, both Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo and Eduardo Montoya of Mexico stepped into the scales at 125-pounds.
The featured bout will see defending WBO Intercontinental junior featherweight champ “Prince” Albert Pagara, who came in two pounds under the limit, while Nicaraguan challenger Yasner Talavera weighed 121.5 pounds.
ALA Boxing CEO Michael Aldeguer is optimistic with the chances of his stable and that they will perform at their best tomorrow.
“They’re really promising. They have been showing all the potential and I hope that they all make through. This Saturday is something. They will be able to show what they could do. Hopefully, they’ll step up,” said Aldeguer.
“After their fights on Saturday, there’s gonna be bigger fights for them. If Mark does well, he’ll be fighting in the undercard with Nonito Donaire on April 23,” he said about the future of his fighters. “If Albert Pagara does well, he may fight in July in the US and Cataraja would be fighting a Mexican early in his career. I think this may define their careers. Hopefully, they’ll do well.”
