Mikh McKinney, Chong Son get back at Hong Kong to keep pace with Alab

After suffering a 76-88 loss in Hong Kong last February 13, Mikh McKinney and Chong Son Kung Fu exacted vengeance on Christian Standhardinger and the Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Club in Nanhai Gym, taking a 94-85 win, Friday evening.

McKinney, a Filipino-American guard, was sensational in the contest, dropping 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and six assists.

McKinney’s compatriot Caelan Tiongson added 10 points and seven rebounds, while helping limit Christian Standhardinger to just 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting and 10 rebounds. The Filipino-German was averaging 24.29 points and 11.93 rebounds per contest prior to this game.

Behind McKinney, Chong Son led by as much as 14 points, 76-62, with 7:32 left in the final frame. Hong Kong’s locals then answered right back with a quick 11-2 spurt to slice the lead to just five.

A three-point play by Justin Howard stopped Chong Son’s bleeding, before McKinney and Tiongson gave their team a double-digit lead once more with a minute remaining in the contest.

Howard posted a 20-20 to power Chong Son with 22 points and 20 rebounds, while swatting away four shots. Anthony Tucker flirted with a triple-double with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists. Local Yongxuan Luo chipped in 17 points, as only Chong Son’s starters scored in the contest.

Marcus Elliott led Hong Kong with 24 points but fouled out in the contest. Ryan Moss finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five swats. However, Tyler Lamb struggled in the contest, shooting just 4-of-17 from the field for eight points.
