Heavy Bombers detonate Knights for first win

The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers demolished the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights to clinch its maiden win of the season in just three sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, Wednesday late afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Team captain Patrick Rabaja steered the Heavy Bombers to their first victory with 17 points off nine attacks, and four each of blocks and aces. Wenjo Lahaylahay registered nine markers.

For JRU head coach Ryan Dela Paz believes that the sets they have won despite their seven losses just motivated them to carry on. He said, “Sinabi ko lang sa kanila halos every training namin na all out kami lagi kailangan. Nag-practice kami para may paghandaan.”

However, despite preparing against Letran in an absence of a scouting report, the Bombers just played with a lot of energy, which is something that fuelled them to the win.

“Yung ingay,” Dela Paz commented on the day’s biggest difference. “Kasi past games namin, first set lang kami maingay. Malamangan kami ng tatlo o apat, nadedegrade na morale ng players.”

King Knight Bobby Gatdula was limited to 13 points in the whole contest.

JRU (1-7) will finish its season next Tuesday when they face the Lyceum of the Philippines University (2-6).

The Knights (0-8) will end theirs against the unbeaten University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (7-0) on Friday.

The Scores:
