Banged up Alaska: Calvin Abueva, Vic Manuel added to team’s hurting players

From banged up to shorthanded, Alaska is slowly losing key players up front in the backcourt.

Vic Manuel suffered a bruised knee and won’t be able to see action against GlobalPort on Tuesday. His injury was an effect of Al Thornton’s accidental landing on his knee. To make matters worse, Thornton’s knee protection, which has metal in it, might have caused additional damage.

Even Calvin Abueva felt the effects of Thornton’s knee protection when his knee collided with the NBA veteran.

“Black and blue yung tuhod ni Calvin,” said Alaska assistant coach Louie Alas.

Alaska’s hardworking forwards are dealing with the pain and the number of hurting players is now piling up. The two join Sonny Thoss and JVee Casio as those banged up.

Casio returned to practice on Monday, but remains to be a doubtful starter. This means that Alas could have four players missing Tuesday’s game against the Batang Pier.
