Denice Zamboanga proved that she is ready to take on ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee.
The number one contender blitzed Watsapinya Kaewkhong, taking a quick first round submission win at the Impact Arena, Thailand during ONE: A New Breed, Friday evening.
“I just came in prepared and I had to be ready for that,” the 23-year-old said humbly.
Zamboanga stormed off the gates against the Thai, blasting her opponent with powerful shots.
The product of Polytechnic University of the Philippines then immediately took down Kaewkhong, before sinking a kimura for the tap-out at the 3:33 mark of the opening stanza.
For Denice, she felt pressured moments before the bout, as her brother and coach Drex had just won his debut earlier.
“I fought the same card with my brother. That’s why I’m so happy,” she expressed.
Raising her slate to 8-0, Zamboanga now shifts her focus to Lee.
This is Kaewkhong’s mixed martial arts debut.
