ONE Championship is officially putting the Atomweight World Grand Prix quarterfinals bout between Denice Zamboanga and Seo Hee Ham under review.
The bout occurred last Friday during the historic ONE: Empower card. It saw Ham pick up a controversial split decision win.
ONE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Chatri Sityodtong made the announcement.
“The fight between Denice Zamboanga and Seo Hee Ham is under formal review by the Competition Committee,” he said.
A day after the bout, Zamboanga took to social media, announcing that she will put the bout under protest.
“I respectfully request ONE to review the result, for the sake of the integrity of the Grand Prix,” the 24-year-old Filipina said.
Sityodtong also opined that he had the bout scored in favor of Zamboanga, albeit via a razor-thin margin.
“I thought Denice Zamboanga (8-1) edged out Seo Hee Ham (24-8) for the victory in a super close fight,” he said.
“While I disagree with the judges on this one, I can understand why they scored the bout for Ham.”
This is not the first time ONE Championship will put a Grand Prix bout under review.
Back on May 17, 2019, Giorgio Petrosyan faced up against Phetmorakot Petchyindee Academy in the quarterfinals of the ONE Kickboxing Featherweight World Grand Prix.
Petrosyan lost the bout via a split decision. The result was then overturned to a no-contest due to illegal clinches after a thorough review.
A rematch was set between Petrosyan and Phetmorakot a month later.
