Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines will not be participating in the 2021-22 season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
In a letter obtained by Tiebreaker Times, the franchise owned by Universal Canning Incorporated has informed league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes about their decision, citing the on-going coronavirus pandemic as the reason.
“We would like to inform the league that we will not be participating in this year’s MPBL season.
“Instead, we will be contemplating joining by next year. This decision is made after careful deliberation of the current national situation,” read the letter signed by team manager Alvin Munio.
Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines lost its core to the 2021 PBA Draft as Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan, Anton Asistio, Junjun Bonsubre, and RJ Argamino were drafted.
Active consultant Eric Altamirano also signed on as tournament director of PBA 3×3.
During the Chooks-to-Go Lakan Cup, Zamboanga lost to Davao Occidental in the Southern Division semis via a sweep.
