Taking step towards regaining her top spot in the rankings, Yuka Saso opens up her latest tournament in the LPGA of Japan Tour on a high note.
The two-time JLPGA champion kept pace with the leaders after ending with a 2-under 70 in the opening round of the 2020 Fujitsu Ladies Golf Tournament. She moves to a tie for seventh place, just two strokes adrift the current leader, Friday afternoon at the Tokyu Seven Hundred Club, Chiba.
The tour rookie registered a 2-under 34 at the front nine after drilling in birdies in the fourth and seventh holes.
Saso then went up to 3-under after taking the par-5 10th hole for a stroke less, which put her at a shot at the lead. Nonetheless, struggles in the 14th hole saw her total dipped a notch after needing an extra shot.
Seonwoo Bae took the lead after 18 holes after registering a 4-under 68 on a bogey-less performance. Four birdies — three of them at the front nine as well — put the Korean on top in a tight race.
Saso looks to continue to her impressive comeback as the tourney gets into its second round, Saturday morning.
