Problems have arisen for Gilas Pilipinas in just its first week of practice for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
For the second straight session, Yeng Guiao could not gather at least 10 players inside the Meralco Gym, Thursday evening.
“That’s the problem on a Thursday, may games on a Friday. Players will opt to just watch practice. It’s a very light practice anyway,” lamented Guiao.
“We’re waiting until everybody is set already. But so far, ‘di pa kami makabuo ng at least ten players. We’re hoping next Monday na makakabuo na kami.”
One player whom Guiao is waiting to enter the gym is Jayson Castro, a two-time all-FIBA Asia team member.
It’s a huge blow for Guiao’s Gilas, as Castro averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in the Asian Qualifiers.
Still, Guiao is holding out hope that Castro will change his mind.
“Baka next week pa lahat ma-resolve,” he said.
“Pero maliit lang yung chance.”
