World Tour Challenger: Obiena takes down France meet for first season title


EJ Obiena bagged his first win of the year’s indoor season, taking the Perche en Or title, Sunday (Manila time) at the Stab Velodrome in Roubaix, France.

The world no. 3 pole vaulter bested the field with a jump of 5.82 meters, ahead of Yao Jie of China, who registered 5.75 meters.

Hometown bet Ethan Cormont completed the podium with 5.65 in the 12-man field in this main event of the pole vault festival.

Obiena opened the year with a runner-up finish to USA’s Sam Kendricks in the Internationales Springer-Meeting in Cottbus, Germany.
