Vren explains idea behind AP.Bren’s Odette pick

During their upper bracket match against See You Soon, AP.Bren unveiled a surprising off-meta pick, taking Odette in the mid lane which raised a lot of eyebrows but were quickly squashed as the M2 World Champions converted a win off the draft that built enough momentum for the closeout in Game 4.

Even See You Soon goldlaner Clarense “Kusey” Camilo, who played Karrie in Game 3, acknowledged the genius idea behind picking Odette against their draft.

“It’s a good counter against Karrie especially that they already know that I’ll be opting for a purify spell. It’s hard to fight against Odette’s ultimate skill when Karrie is free-hitting hitting so I will just be automatically boxed out by Odette and Benedetta. It’s a good pick from them,” he said.

According to AP.Bren coach Vrendon “Vren” Pesebre, who was the brilliant mind behind the Odette pick, the hero has been part of his repertoire as early as the MPL Philippines Season 9 when he was still coaching TNC Pro Team.

“Way back Season 9 pa, I already told my players sa TNC na i-showcase siya sa pro league kasi I see great potential sa Odette pick.

“Her tool is literally team-fight heavy. Meron din siyang lane power. Lalo ngayon nabuff yung passive niya. I think yun yung poke ability niya kaya sabi ko kay Phew try namin sa scrims. Gumana naman kaya inexecute namin kanina and luckily, it worked,” he explained.

In an exclusive interview with Tiebreaker Times, Vren revealed that his team already practiced the Odette pick in scrims for weeks leading up to the M5 World Championship.

After losing in Game 2, the Odette pick was already on his mind when they were discussing the draft for Game 3 in AP.Bren’s dugout.

“Pinag-usapan na namin sa holding room na ito na yung time na mag-Odette. Pinag-usapan na namin yung mangyayari sa draft. Kung kelan namin ipipick yung Odette. Kung ano yung ipipick ng kalaban. Well-planned yung game na yun,” he said.

“Bago pa kami tumuntong ng stage, napag-usapan na naming Odette game na to. This is the Odette game. Lahat nung trigger points para ilabas si Odette, nacheck lahat.”

During the MPL Philippines Season 11, it was also Vren who encouraged the Helcurt jungler pick for AP.Bren which found a lot of success during their regular season campaign.

Vren’s pocket picks will continue to be a threat against other teams as AP.Bren shoots for a second M-world series title.
