V.League: Santiago, Saitama end campaign in fifth place

Jaja Santiago and Saitama Ageo Medics ended their 2021-22 V.League Season with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-12 crushing of Himeji, Sunday at the Wink Gymnasium.

The 6-foot-5 Filipina import netted 12 points on 10 attacks at a 66.7-percent rate, a block, and a service ace.

Santiago was a cut above the rest in the blocking department. She tallied 103 total blocks in 33 outings, 22 more over joint second Foluke Akinradewo and Hattaya Bamrungsuk.

With those 103 rejections, Santiago led the whole league in blocking rate as well, averaging 0.81 blocks per set.

Finishing proved another skill Santiago had done well this season, placing fourth in spiking rate at 48.2 percent, making 260-of-539 attempts.

Ageo Medics ended their season in fifth place behind a 20-13 win-loss record.

Brazilian Lorenne Teixeira uncorked 17 points including two blocks, while Mami Uchiseto and Yuka Sato connived for 25 points.

Celeste Plak paced the Victorina anew with 13 points, all from attacks, while Chihiro Sasaki dropped 10 points.
