University of Santo Tomas bucked errors and Adamson University to emerge victorious in four sets, 25-13, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, in Pool A action of the 2022 V-League Collegiate Challenge, Friday morning at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.
The win puts the Tiger Spikers into the quarterfinals at a 3-1 win-loss record, while the Soaring Falcons were in the brink of getting eliminated of playoff contention at 1-3.
“May improvement pero nagre-regress minsan, stepping back to their own habits kasi new system nga. Pero since may improvement, OK pa, manageable naman,” said UST head coach Odjie Mamon the team’s state heading into the quarterfinals as the squad coughed up 32 errors in the contest.
Down 15-16 at the second technical timeout of the fourth set, UST turned to their floor defense to counter attack with Josh Ybañez finishing the rallies for a closing 9-4 run.
Ybañez came firing off the bench to pace the Tigers with 16 points on 14 attacks and two service aces, while GBoy Dela Vega was solid on both ends to finish with 25 huge markers to go with 16 excellent receptions and four digs.
JM Tropia kept Adamson in the match with 11 points on nine spikes, one block, and one service ace. Joshua Magalaman added eight markers, six of them coming from blocks.
