College of Saint Benilde breathed life into its 2022 V-League Collegiate Challenge campaign with a five-set conquest of erstwhile undefeated De La Salle University, 25-18, 25-20, 26-28, 23-25, 15-8, Friday at the Paco Arena Sports and Events Center in Manila.
This is the Blazers’ first win in Group A in the men’s side for a 1-2 win-loss record, while pulling the Green Archers down to 2-1.
Leading by just four, 8-4, in the fifth set, James Laguit and Roniey Adviento scored two attacks to extend the lead to six and never looked back.
“We prepared in a way na gusto rin nilang manalo,” said CSB assistant coach Jose Roque who sat in lieu of head coach Arnold Laniog. “Somehow na-achieve naman yung gusto naming mangyari.”
Setter Cholo Fajardo paced the squad with his 23 excellent sets bringing out 61 attacks from the Blazers.
Rookie Arnel Aguilar scored 15 of these spikes to go with one block and one ace. Adviento added 17 markers as well on 14 attacks and three blocks.
Noel Kampton kept La Salle in the game with 24 points on 22 attacks and two service aces, while skipper Vince Maglinao ended with 13 markers on 12 spikes and one block.V-League:
