UP guns for third straight win in Ang Liga

Defending UAAP champion University of the Philippines (UP) aims to clinch win number three as they battle College of Saint Benilde (CSB) in the triple-header Saturday of the 14th season of Ang Liga at the San Beda College Field.

The Fighting Maroons, who already holds a 2-0 win-loss card after just two weeks of action in the premier pre-season collegiate football competition, will be meeting the Blazers at 10 a.m.

During their initial two games, the men of coach Anto Gonzales thwarted NCAA squad Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), 3-0, on opening day followed by a slim 1-0 win over rivals Far Eastern University.

Rising football star JB Borlongan starred for the Diliman-based platoon in both wins together with fellow youngster Kintaro Miyagi, who also has two goals registered to his name.

On the other hand, Saint Benilde is on the run to clinch a positive start to their campaign in their debut in this season’s Ang Liga.

Consequently, the bout between last year’s NCAA runners up San Beda College (SBC) and the LPU Pirates will kick off the hostilities of the day at 8 a.m.

San Beda are fresh off a loss against University of the East (UE), 2-1, in their meeting last Sunday while Lyceum are looking to bounce back from their loss against UP.

Also happening in the day is the clash between the FEU Tamaraws and National University (NU) at 3 p.m.

Last weekend’s match results:

Emilio Aguinaldo College 2-3 UP B (Division 2)

FEU-B 5-3 SBC-B (Division 2)

SBC 1-2 UE (Division 1)

Malayan Colleges Laguna 0-1 University of Santo Tomas-B (Division 2)

University of Batangas 1-2 NU (Division 1)

UP 1-0 FEU (Division 1)
