The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles are having a stellar season, and opposite spiker Kat Tolentino has a lot to do with it.
The Fil-Canadian spiker is third in the league in scoring, totaling 153 points as Ateneo hold a league-best 9-1 record. Tolentino also figures in the top 10 in attack percentage and blocks per set.
The 24-year-old spiker has a great shot at winning Most Valuable Player, but she knows that gunning for awards strays from the team’s ethos.
“I think that’s just something that comes along with what coach (Oliver Almadro) says, that individual awards come with team success,” said Almadro.
“So I’m more focused on our team goal, which is the championship. As long as we get that, any other award is not really a concern or important for me.”
Tolentino is playing in her third year and can still play next season. For now, the towering 6-foot-1 spiker is focused on leading the Lady Eagles to their first championship since the UAAP Season 77 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
“I still have… I’m graduating school this year, but I still have a year of eligibility,” said the fourth-year Business Management major.
“I wanna see and focus on this season and how it goes. There’s no decision yet. I haven’t been able to think about it because, I think, it’s more important to think about this season then I can think about that.”
