The University of Santo Tomas women’s team are going to the Finals brimming with confidence.
The España-based netters completed their elimination round assignments with a flourish, dominating the Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles, Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
UST’s Precian Rivera fended off the challenge of Khrizelle Sampaton in the first singles match in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Erika Manduriao had a relatively easier time in dispatching Rocio Climent, 6-1, 6-0, to double the lead for the Tigresses.
There was no need to worry afterwards, as Lennelyn Milo and Marrie San Jose took care of Annika Mallari and Nicole Amistad, 6-3, 6-4, and UST clinched the tie.
Shymae Gitalan and Ingrid Gonzales close out the rout for the last year’s runners-up with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 decision in the second doubles match.
Season 78 Rookie of the Year Jana Pages averted a sweep after dominating Immaville Gervacio, 6-3, 6-2.
The Lady Eagles will open their Sunday early, as Jessica Agra will try to send the abandoned third singles match against University of the Philippines’ Nicole Eugenio to a decider at 730am.
Afterwards, the Loyola-based netters will finish the elimination round against the De La Salle University Lady Green Tennisters (1-6) immediately following that match.
On their part, the Female Tennisters (6-2) await the National University Lady Bulldogs in the Finals.
