UAAP POW Alyssa Solomon praises NU’s fighting heart after surviving UST

Alyssa Solomon proved to be the heart of National University’s dominant run, spearheading the Lady Bulldogs’ perfect 7-0 sweep in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball eliminations.

Behind the Lady Bulldogs’ flawless record were their offensive weapons, who delivered consistently throughout the early stages of the UAAP volleyball season.

Leading the charge was Solomon, whose impressive performances earned her the Collegiate Press Corps UAAP Women’s Player of the Week honors for the period of March 12 to 16.

In a tight race for the weekly award presented by the Philippine Sports Commission and backed by Discovery Suites and World Balance, the 6-foot-2 Solomon edged out her teammate Lams Lamina, La Salle’s Shevana Laput and Mikole Reyes, UP’s Irah Jaboneta and Joan Monares, and Adamson’s standout rookie Shaina Nitura.

Solomon showcased her offensive prowess with a dominant 22-point performance, tallying 15 attacks, four blocks, and three aces in NU’s 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons last Wednesday.

In their Sunday showdown against the UST Golden Tigresses, the Lady Bulldogs faced a tougher challenge. Pushed to the limit, Solomon once again rose to the occasion, firing 24 points on 21 attacks and three blocks to power NU to a thrilling 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 15-9 win that preserved their spotless record.

“Yung panalo today hindi siya naging madali kasi nakita ko sa UST na inaral talaga nila yung bawat galaw namin,” said Solomon, the reigning Finals MVP and Best Opposite Spiker.

“Binigay talaga nila ‘yung best nila kanina and very happy naman kami na pinusuan talaga yung game ng teammates ko.”
