VN Red & Gold, the women’s team from Vietnam, made a statement by winning the Asia Tour 3×3 tournament held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on Sunday.
Kaylynne Truong was instrumental in the team’s victory, scoring six crucial points in the final moments to help her team come from behind and win 21-16 against Sniper Thailand.
Kaylynne’s scored 12 points while her free throw with just over a minute remaining sealed the win and earned VN Red & Gold the USD 5,000 cash prize.
Kaylynne’s twin sister, Kayleigh Truong, also made an impact in the game, scoring seven points.
The Truong sisters were part of a dominant five-game performance by their team, which finished ahead of the competition and claimed the top prize.
VN Red & Gold’s next goal is to improve on their silver medal finish from the previous Southeast Asian Games.
Despite the loss, Sniper Thailand played well throughout the tournament and earned USD 2,500 for finishing as runner-up.
Supavadee Kunchuan led the Thai team with eight points, while Piyanuch Sriprem contributed seven points.
The tournament, which was held in partnership with SM, Smart, and Wilson, featured sponsors such as Heritage Hotel, Fiber Kinetics, Gatorade, Healthy & Pure Brand Water, Center for Culinary Arts, and Spurway Enterprises.
Prior to the final, VN Red & Gold defeated Harimau Malaysia B 21-14, while Sniper Thailand dominated Uratex Dream with a 21-13 victory in their respective semifinal matches.
In addition to the team competition, the tournament also featured a Two-Point Shootout, which was won by Sniper Thailand’s Khwanjira Thongdaeng.
Thongdaeng scored nine points and completed the feat in the shortest amount of time to break a three-way tie with Nico Salva of Happy Hotels and Tan Pei Jie of Harimau Malaysia B, who also scored nine points.
