James Yap failed to finish the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup meeting with Magnolia Friday no thanks to an injury.
Coach Caloy Garcia revealed that the two-time league Most Valuable Player hurt one side of his groin during the second quarter of the match. The Elasto Painters eventually lost by just a point, 68-69.
“I think may nangyari sa groin niya. May pumitik,” said the bench strategist moments after the defeat.
The 37-year-old star previously suffered a groin injury last June during the early goings of the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup. This time around, Garcia said it is the other side that got hurt.
It took a while for Yap to recover from the said injury the last time out, and that’s what Garcia fears to happen.
Rain or Shine are more anxious since they have yet to determine the severity of Yap’s injury.
“The last time nung nagka-groin injury medyo tumagal eh. So I don’t know how bad it is,” Garcia said. “But halftime pa lang nasabihan na ako na ‘di na niya kaya, masakit raw.
“So we didn’t want to gamble with that. He’ll have himself checked tomorrow.”
