ANTIPOLO — TNT has sent a termination of contract notice to Mikey Williams.
No less than senior consultant Chot Reyes confirmed reports that the ball club sent notice to the 32-year-old Filipino-American guard as both camps couldn’t agree on a new deal.
He said as much after TNT beat Converge in OT, 101-98, for its first win of the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup Saturday at the Ynares Center here.
It was already the second game that the Tropa missed the services of the two-time Finals Most Valuable Player, who is still in the States.
Williams opted to renegotiate for a new deal for Season 48, but talks became protracted once more, similar to what happened last season.
So much so that team manager Jojo Lastimosa opted to hand off the talks to Reyes, since he’s also serving as the team’s head coach.
And it has come to a point where TNT had to send a contract termination letter, making the future of their relationship all the more bleak.
But the straightforward mentor said that the Tropang Giga still owns the rights of Williams, although the team has yet to decide what its next step could be.
“Wala. But we still hold his rights.”
