Rey Nambatac will not suit up for TNT in the 2025 PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.
Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed that Nambatac is still recovering from a groin and hip flexor injury, which will not heal in time for the playoffs. As a result, TNT decided not to activate him for the postseason.
The Tropang 5G, who are aiming for a grand slam this season, will begin their quarterfinal series against the twice-to-beat-armed Magnolia Hotshots tonight.
Nambatac, the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals MVP, sustained the injury during TNT’s game against Meralco on May 11.
At the time of his injury, he was averaging 12.17 points, 3.67 assists, and 3.33 rebounds per game.
His recovery was initially projected to take four to six weeks, but the full four weeks have passed without a return to full fitness.
With Nambatac sidelined, TNT will stick with the same roster it used in its last two games — one that now includes reinforcements Jordan Heading and Mike Nieto.
The Tropang 5G are currently on a two-game skid heading into the playoffs.
