Far Eastern University (FEU) has announced the return of Tina Salak as the head coach of the Lady Tamaraws, effective for the upcoming UAAP Season 87.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, marks Salak’s reassumption of the role after stepping away last season due to personal matters.
“FEU Athletics welcomes Coach Tina Salak back to her role as Head Coach of our women’s volleyball team. From the outset, it has been our intention for Coach Tina to provide long-term mentorship in FEU. However, personal administrative matters made her miss most of the buildup for #UAAPSeason85 when she remained involved as a consultant,” the school’s statement read.
“With Coach Tina now back full time with the team, she will reassume the Head Coach position.”
Salak previously led the Lady Tamaraws in UAAP Season 85, where she guided the team to a 6-8 finish – a significant improvement from their one-win record in Season 84.
However, her plans to move to the United States prompted her to step down from the head coaching position, although she remained involved with the team as a consultant.
Her return to the FEU coaching staff began in UAAP Season 86, where she joined the staff of interim head coach Manolo Refugia.
With Salak’s full-time return, Refugia will now serve as her assistant coach.
The Lady Tamaraws are coming off a strong fourth-place finish in the previous season and are currently competing in the ongoing V-League tournament.
