Manolo Refugia is back at the helm of the Far Eastern University women’s volleyball team, this time returning as head coach after previously serving in an interim capacity in UAAP Season 86.
The Lady Tamaraws announced on Friday via social media the appointment and promotion of former assistant coach Refugia.
FEU also welcomed PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort as team consultant.
The moves came just a week after Tina Salak stepped down as chief tactician.
“Having served as assistant coach, Refugia brings continuity, a deep understanding of the team’s culture, and a strong commitment to the continued development of FEU student-athletes,” read FEU’s post.
Refugia previously served as interim head coach in Season 86, when Salak took on a consultant role.
In his lone season at the helm, he guided FEU to a Final Four finish and pushed top-seeded National University to a rubber match in the semifinals after a stunning straight-sets win in Game 1.
A product of the FEU volleyball program, Refugia was also part of the Tamaraws’ last men’s volleyball championship in UAAP Season 74 (2012) as a setter.
Meanwhile, Ricafort brings extensive experience to the program, having led PLDT to two PVL championships and recently earning PVL Press Corps Coach of the Year honors last May.
“Joining the program as consultant is Rald Ricafort, recently recognized as the Premier Volleyball League’s Coach of the Year. His extensive experience and proven track record at the professional level will provide valuable strategic guidance as the team continues to build toward future success,” FEU added.
Refugia will now lead a core composed of Gerzel Petallo, Marga Encarnacion, Faida Bakanke, and Jazlyn Ellarina in Season 89.
