Tina Salak is making her return after almost a year of absence, joining Akari as an assistant coach for the 2024 Premier Volleyball League season, the team announced on Wednesday.
Salak left her post as head coach of Far Eastern University’s women’s volleyball team last June in preparation for her move to the United States.
The legendary setter will help out interim head coach Raffy Mosuela as they trek the new season with a loaded roster.
“Welcome to the Akari Chargers, Assistant Coach Tina Salak,” said Akari in a Facebook post.
“We have seen how she has elevated her teams in the past, which is why we are thrilled to see how she will contribute to the growth of our players this season. We are delighted to have you on our squad, Coach Tina,” the team added.
The former Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist’s last coaching stint was back in the UAAP Season 85, where she almost steered the Lady Tamaraws back to the Final Four with a fifth-place finish.
Prior to her one-year stint with FEU, the team finished dead last in Season 84.
Salak is set to join Chargers interim head coach Raffy Mosuela on the sidelines.
