Tiamzon finds silver lining in Lady Maroons’ setbacks

Just when the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons needed reprieve, fifth-year opposite hitter Nicole Tiamzon came to the rescue.

“Siguro, sayang yung pagod namin, yung training namin for the past few days kung di naman ilalabas yung laro namin,” the 21 year old lamented.

“Hindi pa tapos; puwede pa kaming manalo. So pinush namin third and fourth. Siguro [nung fifth], naunahan naman kami. Nawalan kami ng kumpyansa, naunahan na naman nila kami,” Tiamzon said of the fifth set that saw the Lady Maroons drop Game 1 against the FEU Lady Tamaraws.

The former UP skipper admitted that losing three straight games is taking its toll, especially right after the game.

“Siyempre, sayang ulit. Pinagsisihan namin na hindi namin na-convert yung sa training namin into the game.”

However, the Lady Maroons’ setbacks might be beneficial to their learning experience in preparation for the UAAP.SVL13-UPD-v-BAG-Nicole-Tiamzon-celebration Tiamzon finds silver lining in Lady Maroons' setbacks News PVL UP Volleyball - philippine sports news

“At least dito na lumalabas yung weaknesses namin. Para sa four months na [preparation for] UAAP, na-figure out namin at maayos namin,” UP’s open hitter said as the Lady Maroons are looking to finish at the podium in the 79th Season of the UAAP.

On her part, she will just do everything to make it count every time.

When asked if the Diliman Wonder Girl is back to carry the team, the versatile spiker had this to say:

“I don’t know. Ginagawa ko lang yung pinapagawa sa akin sa court. Kasi hindi kami mananalo ng ako lang,” she furthered.

“Dapat as a team dapat mag-contribute, di man sa offense, sa depensa naman.”

Nevertheless, Tiamzon is ready to deliver when called upon.

“Sa lahat naman siguro ng spot, may pressure,” she said.

“Yung puwesto kailangan talagang magbigay ng puntos. May pressure, pero it’s up to you kung paano mo i-handle.

“Hindi ko sasayangin yung opportunity na binibigay sa kin. Kung ano yung kaya kong ibigay, ibibigay ko,” she concluded.
