Terrence Romeo did not show much concern even if he suffered a sprained left ankle during the second quarter of the TNT Katropa’s match with the Blackwater Elite, where they reigned victorious, 120-101, Friday night.
The flashy combo guard hurt his ankle late in the second frame after inadvertently stepping on the foot of Elite guard Renz Palma. He left the game with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 15 minutes.
“Normal naman ‘to sa mga player,” he said. “Kailangan ko lang tignan to na may reason kung bakit ganito, baka overwork or kailangan ko lang magpahinga.
“May plano si God. Alam ko naman na hindi Niya ko pababayaan.”
The reigning, three-time scoring champion bared that he had actually wanted to come back to continue the game that had been going his way, but even if he had taken painkillers, his ankle just couldn’t get going anymore.
“Ininuman ko kaagad ng Cataflam.
“Before nung game uminom na ‘ko ng Arcoxia kasi medyo sumasakit din yung tuhod ko so ininuman ko ng Arcoxia. Tapos yun nga natapilok ako… Wala e, ‘di kaya. Ang sakit talaga,” he rued.
Furthermore, the injury wasted the effort, and what could have been a great narrative, that the product of FEU put in for Friday’s salvo — he arrived at the SMART Araneta Coliseum at 12:30 in the afternoon for shootarounds.
“Nage-extra shooting na ‘ko kasi gusto ko talaga makatulong sa team eh gusto ko maganda laruin ko. Sayang,” said Romeo. “Medyo nakuha ko na yung first half ko eh, papuntang third nakuha ko na. Kaso bigla ako nainjury.
“Sayang.”
With yet another injury since his knee issue, Romeo’s status for the upcoming All-Star Week is uncertain. Romeo will appear in all legs — he will be starting for All-Star Visayas, and will pay for Gilas in Luzon and Mindanao.
So for now, Romeo’s sights are set on healing his hurt ankle.
“Pahinga.
“Pagpasok ko sa dugout namamaga na agad eh. Eh normally ‘pag mga ganitong mga tapilok, one week na yung pinakamababa. So bahala na,” said the five-year pro. “Oobserbahan ko, mas dadalasan ko yung ice.”
